My Original Opinion of Xbox Live

Though I have been playing video games since I was eight years old, I do not understand the reasoning behind paying more money just for a few minuscule benefits. I don't see why people would be willing to pay an extra 60 dollars a year just to be hooked up to Xbox Live. They first have to pay for Internet on a monthly basis and then they have to use that Internet hook up to connect to Xbox Live and pay another fee just for that access. From my knowledge there are still more fees. For any good download you may want for a game you have to pay even more and I don't see the sense in it. What happened to the time when you bought a gaming system and games for it and that was it? No add-ons that cost extra. If you wanted to play with friends then you bought extra gaming paddles and invited them over.

Perhaps this view is old-fashioned, but video games were always a favorite social activity and I feel that Xbox Live is an excuse for video games to no longer be personal. There is no physical interaction needed and I feel that this could be potentially destructive to a person's ability to interact on a social level. Friends have told me that Xbox Live is a way for them to keep in touch with their friends and sometimes family, but I don't see how this is possible. To me, it seems like it is supposed to look like it helps people become closer, but it is really aiding them in being, at least physically, farther apart.
